OVERVIEW

All students at Queens Technical High School are required to complete four years (8 credits) of instruction in social studies.

Global History 1 (fall, ninth grade): Unit 1 - The First Civilizations (10,000 B.C.E. - 900 C.E.); Unit 2 - Expanding Interregional Networks: Exchange and Encounter (500 - 1500 C.E.); Unit 3 - The Ottoman and Ming Dynasties (pre-1600 C.E.)

Global History 2 (spring, ninth grade): Unit 4 - Transformation of Western Europe and Russia (1314 - 1750 C.E.); Unit 5 - Africa and the Americas (pre-1600 C.E.); Unit 6 - Interactions and Disruptions During the First Global Age (1400 - 1750 C.E.)

Global History 3 (fall, tenth grade): Unit 1 - The World in 1750 C.E.; Unit 2 - An Age of Revolution and Empire (1750 - 1914 C.E.); Unit 3 - Unresolved Global Conflict (1914 - 1991 C.E.) 

Global History 4 (spring, tenth grade): Unit 4 - Decolonization and Nationalization; Unit 5 - Tension Between Traditional Cultures and Modernization; Unit 6 - Globalization and the Changing Environment

AP World History (tenth grade, offered in place of Global 3-4 by application): The AP World History course is structured around the investigation of five course themes and 19 key concepts in six different chronological periods, from approximately 8000 B.C.E. to the present. This course covers the following themes: Interaction Between Humans and the Environment;  Development and Interaction of Cultures;  State Building, Expansion, and Conflict;  Creation, Expansion, and Interaction of Economic Systems;  Development and Transformation of Social Structures. Course Details

US History 1 (fall, eleventh grade): Unit 1 - Forming a Union: Colonial and Constitutional Foundations (1607 - 1800); Unit 2 - Expansion, Nationalism, and Sectionalism (1800-1865); Unit 3 - Post Civil-War America Industrialization, Urbanization, and the Progressive Movement (1865 - 1900)

US History 2 (spring, eleventh grade): Unit 4 - Prosperity and Depression at Home and Abroad (1890 - 1941); Unit 5 - World War II and the Cold War (1935 - 1990); Unit 6 - Social and Economic Change: Domestic Issues (1945 - present); Unit 7 - The United States and Globalization (1990 - present)

AP United States History (eleventh grade, offered in place of US History 1-2 by application): Study the cultural, economic, political, and social developments that have shaped the United States from c. 1491 to the present. You’ll analyze texts, visual sources, and other historical evidence and write essays expressing historical arguments. Course Details
Participation in Government (fall, twelfth grade): Unit 1 - Foundations of American Democracy; Unit 2 - Rights and Responsibilities; Unit 3 - Civic Participation and Public Policy
Economics (spring, twelfth grade): Unit 1 - Personal Finance: Individual Responsibility and the Economy; Unit 2 - Individuals and Businesses in the Market; Unit 3 - American Capitalism and the Global Economy

AP United States Government and Politics (twelfth grade, offered in place of Government by application): The AP U.S. Government and Politics course involves the study of democratic ideas, balance of powers, and tension between the practical and ideal in national policy-making. Students analyze and discuss the importance of various constitutional principles, rights and procedures, institutions, and political processes that impact us as citizens. Course Details
