PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This program focuses on the necessary competencies for an entry-level IT professional including installing, upgrading, repairing, configuring, troubleshooting, optimizing, diagnosing, and performing preventative maintenance of basic personal computer hardware and operating systems. In addition, this program focuses on the fundamentals of cybersecurity, to attain the skills needed to become an effective Cybersecurity Analyst.

Requirements for Career and Technical Education Endorsed Diploma

Computer Information Systems

Incoming ninth graders are required to begin the Computer Information Systems program. At the end of the 10th year, students have the option of selecting computer technology or pre-engineering electronic technology. You will go through the following sequence:

9th Year Computer Information Systems

Intro to computer hardware & software theory, operating systems, DOS and basic web design

10th Year Computer Information Systems

Basic computer assembly & troubleshooting, operating system and networking labs

11th Year Computer Information Systems

Advanced computer assembly and troubleshooting (Hardware & Software), A+ cert. exam prep

12th Year Computer Information Systems

A+ Essentials & IT certification exam, advanced networking w/ laser printers, routers, etc.

Students will be given the opportunity to become certified in:

Copper Network Cabling

Fiber Optics Network Cabling

CompTIA A+ certification

All students must, by the end of their senior year, complete a 60 hour internship in their trade area.
