Activities and Student Groups

INTRODUCTION

All students are welcome to apply to any of the clubs and activities listed below.

Students interested in starting a new activity or group should contact Mr. Vega, Coordinator of Student Activities.

Arista, Queens Technical High School’s honor society, is an organization dedicated to recognizing and encouraging students who demonstrate excellence, not only in the classroom, but also as leaders in their schools and communities.  Arista standards of scholarship, leadership, service, and character will be considered as the basis of your selection.  No student is inducted simply because of a high academic average. The Art Club meets in room 105 on Wednesdays from 2:30-5:00 PM and Saturdays from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM. Contact Ms. Volpe for more information. 

The Book Club meets on Friday during lunch periods in the school library, and is open to all students. Contact Ms. Lewis for more information. Website

The Cheerleading Team is a competitive student group, selected through a tryout process. The team meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30-6:30 PM in the school cafeteria. Contact Ms. Irizarry for more information. Website

The Chess Club meets on Tuesdays from 2:30-6:00 PM in the school library. Contact Ms. Dimech for more information.

College Now is a program offered with the City University of New York that allows students to earn college credit while in high school. Contact your guidance counselor for more information. Website

Comics have dominated pop culture in the last two decades. Students will read some popular comics and encounter some new ones. They will draw and create their own if they want. We will watch film based on these comics as well. All are welcome. Comic Book Club meets Mondays 3:30-5:30pm in room 347. Contact Mr. Bahrenburg for more information.

The Gamers Club meets Thursdays from 3:30-5:00 PM in room 303. Contact Mr. Muzamali for more information

The Gay-Straight Alliance meets Tuesdays at 3:30 PM in room 356. Contact Mr. Romano for more information. Website

The Leadership class meets Monday to Friday. This class helps to plan school events such as Spirit Week, dances, and trips. Contact Mr. Vega for details about how to apply.

The Math Peer Tutor Club meets Thursdays from 2:30-6:00 PM in the school library. Contact Ms. Dimech for more information.

Do you have a big personality? Interested in different opinions about social issues? Want to gain great communications skills for your resume? If so, then join QT's very first Podcast Club! We meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:30 PM. Contact Ms. Deshmukh for more information. Website

Queens Tech's school newspaper, the Technical Truth, is published three to four times per school year. The journalism club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 PM in room 454. Contact Mr. Bahrenburg for more information about working on the school newspaper! Website

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student to excel. SkillsUSA is a national organization serving teachers and high school and college students who are preparing for careers in technical, skilled and service occupations, including health occupations and for further education. The talent show is one of the biggest events each year at Queens Tech. Acts are determined by a series of tryouts, and then those selected to perform participate in regular after-school rehearsals. Some students also participate by working on the sound, lighting, and stage crews. Watch for an announcement about tryouts or contact Mr. Vega for more information.

The Writer's Workshop Club meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5:30 PM in room 358. Contact Ms. Verderosa for more information.

The Queens Tech yearbook is published each year by dedicated students in the senior class. The yearbook club meets in room 301 Thursdays from 2:30-3:30 PM and Saturdays from 11:00 AM-1:00 PM. Contact Mr. Mclean for more information about joining the yearbook team. Website
