SLT Meeting Minutes for Wednesday, November 6, 2019
Library, Room 455
4:30 - Introductions were made for a new SLT Member, Ms. Karabelas. UFT Elections for the SLT happened and Mr. Whyte and Ms. Karabelas won the election.
4:59 - Discussion about the revisions that were made to the SLT Bylaws. Revisions were approved by all members.
5:05 - SLT members were given a packet of the Quarterly CEP Goal Review. Ms. Burg, again, discussed her goals for the year for the QT students. Her focus is for Black Males, White Students, ELL Students and Students with Disabilities. She states that Black and Hispanic boys are lower in attendance, and in graduation rates. She would like to help those students with formal restorative conferencing to help them get more comfortable in their academics. To anticipate meeting the goal, she has hired a male social worker, one time per week, to run a “My Brother’s Keeper” Chapter. He will come in and help 10th grade Black and Hispanic boys who are struggling academically or socially through counseling intervention and academic support. “My Brother’s Keeper” will be part of the school schedule.
5:15 - The second part of the packet dealt with meeting the goal of AP Courses and exam scores. The students need extra support for AP classes such as reading college level material and study skills. The goal is to have students earn a 3 or better on AP exams, and an 80 or better in Math and English Regents. The goal also is to help ELL and Students with Disabilities by providing extra support. We need to increase the percentage of Students with Disabilities and ELL students taking AP Courses.
5:21 - The third part of the packet was about Chronic Absenteeism. The goal is to provide QT students with extra help both academically and emotionally to be present at school, especially the White and Students with Disabilities. (QT has 69 White Students-12 chronically absent—101ELL Students-28 chronically absent with 19 at risk and 238 Students with IEPs- 38 being chronically absent and 51 at risk of being chronically absent). Ms. Burg wants to have Western Queens Mental Health Clinic and Sunnyside Community Services help support these goals to improve student attendance.
6:25 - Teacher Concerns: NONE Parent Concerns: NONE
Student Concerns: Updates for the Gym—Ms. Burg submitted artwork for the floor design. Artwork was designed by our very own Mr. Garcia. Hopes to have the Gym completed by January when students return from Winter Recess.
